FARMVILLE, Va. — The Longwood women's tennis team fell to North Carolina Central, 5-2, on the New Lancer Courts on Saturday.
Longwood (4-4) took the doubles point as
Oriana Izarra and
Phoebe Mitchell defeated Valentina De Aquino and Gabriela Mejia, 6-2, on court three and
Hayley Garber and
Karina Rizvanova topped Alejandra Hidalgo and Valeria San Miguel, 6-2 at No. 1.
San Miguel tied the dual with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Rizvanova to open singles action on court two. NCCU took the lead with a win at No. 6 by Mejia over
Alexis Broderick, 6-4, 6-2.
NCCU made it 3-1 when de Aquino defeated
Alexandra Magia, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 5. Mariana Zottoli pushed it to 4-1 for the Eagles with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Izarra at No. 3.
Hidalgo outlasted
Feline van Eijkelenburg on court one, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.
The Lancers closed the match with a victory as Mitchell's opponent at No. 4, Patricia Palencia retired due to injury with the Longwood player up, 2-6, 6-4, 5-3.
North Carolina Central improved to 3-4 on the season with the win.
Longwood returns to action on Tuesday, hosting Norfolk State at 2 p.m.
