BUIES CREEK, N.C. — The Longwood men's tennis team nipped Campbell, 4-3, to earn its first win over the Fighting Camels since 2007 at the Nesbit Tennis Center.
The Lancers, who last beat Campbell, 4-3, on April 10, 2007 at home in Farmville, Va., won the doubles point Saturday to get off on the right foot.
Petar Belosevic and
Marko Mrdak topped Adi Dagan and Alexander Fragasso, 6-3 and
Mauricio Gonzalez Paiva and
Timéo Puech beat Thomas Drapeau and Luke Tollenaar, 6-3 on courts two and one, respectively.
"The men came out to make point today," said Longwood Director go Tennis
Charlotte Clarke. "We have a new identity and today they showed what a tough team looks like. The men played big doubles and fought with everything in the singles."
Lindquist made it 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Chris Davis at No. 6 singles Puech beat Drapeau 6-2, 6-4 from the top spot to extend the lead to 3-1.
Up, 3-2, in the dual, Belosevic sealed the victory for Longwood with a three-set win over Hudjec, 7-6, 3-6, 6-1.
The Lancers are back in action at UNCG next Saturday at 1 p.m.
