Longwood Grabs Pair of Leads, Settles for 2-2 Draw at Navy

Lancers unbeaten against Midshipmen in three matches

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Ezrah Serralde's second-half howitzer gave the Longwood men's soccer team its second lead of the night, but the Midshipmen equalized minutes later as the teams drew, 2-2, in the final non-conference match for both at Glenn Warner Soccer Facility on Tuesday.

Serralde's third goal of the year — a right-footed blast wired to the top corner — put Longwood up, 2-1, in the 58th minute. The strike from just outside the box, set up by a feed from sophomore classmate Brando Bedolla, came in the 59th minute.

Navy, though, responded nine minute later as Tommy Lockhart slipped a ball underneath Longwood goalkeeper Max Hinke in tight quarters at the near post to bring the score level. Will Cawlfield and JP Torres assisted on that tally.

With the draw, the Lancers (2-8-4) remained unbeaten against Navy in their last three meetings, going 2-0-1.

Longwood scored first for just the fifth time this season, getting a 28th-minute marker from senior Syrus Conolly, who beat Navy goalie Robert Eaton through the legs.

On the goal, Conolly's third of the season, Bedolla played a ball to the right corner of the penalty area to Jesus Macaya, who, in turn, found Conolly in the six-yard box for the finish.

That's the way the half looked to conclude until Navy defender Alex Galloway played a long ball  up to Keane Brown. Andrew Schug then put it in the left corner of the net to make it 1-1 in the 42nd minute.

The Midshipmen (3-6-6) outshot Longwood, 14-12, on the night, although the Lancers held a 6-4 edge in corner kicks and enjoyed 53 percent of ball possession.

Serralde had a team-best two shots on goal while Conolly, Bedolla and Aaron Bruening had the others for Longwood.

Hinke made five saves, improving to 1-4-3 on the season. Eaton turned away three shots for Navy.

Longwood is back on the road Saturday in Big South play at USC Upstate at 2 p.m., on ESPN+.
