LYNCHBURG, Va. — The Longwood women's tennis team fell, 7-0, to Elon at the Liberty Indoor Tennis Center on Saturday.
Juniors
Oriana Izarra and
Elizaveta Gnilozubova defeated Elon's No. 3 pair of Lisa Kranec and Ella Suk, 6-2, to knot doubles play at 1-1 after Miray Konar and Helen Sarikulaya topped
Karina Rizvanova and
Phoebe Mitchell by the same score at No. 1.
The No. 2 Phoenix duo of Mariana Reding and Simone Bergeron then outlasted
Alexandra Magia and
Feline van Eijkelenburg 7-6 (3) to claim the doubles point.
From there, Elon (2-0) won all six singles matches in straight sets.
Madison Cordisco made it 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Gnilozubova on court five before Reding beat Mitchell, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 4. Bergeron followed, topping van Eijkelenburg, 6-1, 6-4, from No. 1, and Kranec defeated Magia, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 6.
Sarikulaya got past Rizvanova, 6-2, 7-5, and Heidi Bolger closed the match with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Izarra on court three.
Longwood (0-2) is back in action at Barton on Feb. 2 at 1 p.m.
