FARMVILLE, Va. – On senior day, a freshman put Longwood women's soccer on the board.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The two sides traded the ball and opportunities throughout the opening half. Both sides totaled six shots, with UMBC garnering five on target while Longwood put four on frame.
For Longwood, Siner rang the woodwork, striking one off the crossbar in the 22
nd minute.
However, the score remained deadlocked through one half of play.
Early in the second half, Siner had another opportunity, and this time the freshman didn't miss. She took a bobbled ball and slotted it to the back post for a 1-0 Longwood lead in the 51
st minute, becoming the seventh different Lancer to score this season.
UMBC found its footing and responded though, surging forward to snap up the equalizer a few minutes later. Payton Schanning slotted home a nice cross from Izzy Binko to even the score at one.
The backbreaker came in the 85
th minute on a UMBC corner kick. The initial offering was swept aside, but the follow up service found Delainey Varela-Keen, and she buried her chance for the late one-goal lead.
Peyton Curney had a tying shot attempt saved by UMBC's Amara Codd with less than two minutes to play.
WHAT THEY SAID:
"That was an even, competitive, hard fought game by both teams," said Longwood Head Coach
Todd Dyer. "In the end, they just had a little bit more than us in the tank. I'd like to see us have more control in possession because all of those transition moments, and chasing the game, catch up with you at some point. We've learned a lot from our nonconference schedule, and now it's time to focus on Big South play.
UP NEXT:
Longwood is finished with non-conference play, and the team dives into Big South play following a 10-day break. The Lancers head to High Point on Wednesday, September 25 with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
