FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood women's soccer coach
Todd Dyer announced the team's 2024 schedule on Wednesday.
Â
Once again, the Lancers will face a tough gauntlet in non-conference play as they gear up for the rough and tumble Big South. Three of their non-conference foes, in a six-game stretch, won conference titles a year ago in Western Carolina, Liberty and Old Dominion.
Â
Following exhibition matches against William & Mary and at VCU, Longwood opens the regular season on August 18 at home against a Loyola Maryland team that finished third in the Patriot League a season ago.
Â
Longwood then hits the road for a grueling six-game road swing that begins with their annual matchup against Richmond on August 22. The Lancers then head to Western Carolina, Appalachian State, Liberty, Davidson and Old Dominion over a two-and-a-half-week span that closes on Sunday, September 8 against reigning the reigning Sun Belt champions at ODU.
Â
The next week, the Lancers will host three games in a six-day span at the Longwood Athletics Complex. Hampton, Howard and UMBC all come to Farmville as Longwood closes non-conference play.
Â
Big South play begins on Wednesday, September 25 with a trip to High Point, and Longwood closes September at home against Gardner-Webb on Saturday, September 28.
Â
A matchup with Winthrop on Wednesday, October 2 closes a stretch that sees Longwood play five of six at home.
Â
From that point on, Longwood alternates home and road for the rest of October, with dates against UNC Asheville (October 5) and Presbyterian (October 19) scattered around trips to USC Upstate (October 5), reigning Big South champion Radford (October 16) and Charleston Southern (October 26).
Â
The Big South Tournament begins November 2 with the top six teams in the league qualifying for postseason.
