NORFOLK, Va. — The Longwood women's tennis team stretched its winning streak to three matches with a 5-2 victory at Norfolk State on Sunday.
The Lancers, who improved to 4-5 on the season with the win, used doubles wins from the No. 2 pair of Feline van Eijkelenburg and Oriana Izarra, 6-2, and the No. 3 duo of Sophia Marchetta and Nina Hederich, 6-0, to take the doubles point.
In singles action, van Eijkelenburg topped Gabriela Davidescu, 6-2, 6-3 on court one, Izarra beat Alessia Stan, 6-1, 6-2 and Marchetta defeated Laura Ruiz, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 4. Karina Rizvanova dispatched Maria Sabrina Iurea, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5 and Kashmira Manohar beat Isabella Cotrell by the same score on court six.
The Spartans fell to 1-6 on the year with the loss.
Longwood jumps into Big South Conference play when it hosts Gardner-Webb Thursday at 1 p.m., at the Lancer Courts.
