SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Junior Elizaveta Gnilozubova defeated Ofer Kivity of Campbell in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2, to lead the Longwood women's tennis team on the final day of the Big Southern Shootout at Wofford's Reeves Tennis Center Sunday.
The Lancers took on players from the host Terriers, Western Carolina and Campbell on the day.Â
In doubles action, the Western Carolina pair of Jade Groen and Madison Schwartz beat Karina Rizvanova and Alexandra Magia, 6-1, while the Catamounts' Isabella Sambola and Andrea Redondo topped Feline van Eijkelenburg and Oriana Izarra, 6-3.
Wofford's Breda Brennan and Brianna Wilbur then defeated Kashmira Manohar and Gnilozubova, 6-2.
In singles, Brennan beat Rizvanova, 6-0, 6-1, Sonia Pieczynska of Campbell topped van Eijkelenburg, 6-1, 6-1 and Grace Agster from Wofford beat Izarra, 6-3, 6-0.
Catherine Blouin, also from Wofford, then beat Magia, 6-4, 6-1 before a pair of Campbell players — Sandra Mari Marti and Mollie Garcia — defeated Manohar and Alexis Broderick, respectively. Mari Marti beat Manohar, 6-3, 6-1 and Garcia beat Broderick, 6-2, 6-4.
During the three-day event, one point was awarded for each match played. Overall, the Southern Conference teams of Chattanooga, Western Carolina, and Wofford were joined by Campbell to score a total of 57 points. The Big South schools Longwood of Gardner-Webb and Radford had a combined 28 points.
The Lancers return to action at the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships, 17-22 in Charlottesville, Va.
