FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood women's soccer didn't allow a goal in two matches last week, and senior goalkeeper Sara Curtis and freshman defender Berni Wayland earned Big South weekly honors.
 
Curtis was named the Big South Defensive Player of the Week, and Wayland was named the Big South Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced today.
 
Curtis piled up 10 saves while helping guide Longwood to shutouts of Radford and Presbyterian, the top two goal-scoring teams in the league.
 
First, Curtis made five saves at Radford to help Longwood blank the preseason favorite and team that led the Big South in goals scored. She followed with five more saves against Presbyterian to shut out a Blue Hose offense that is tied for the second-most goals in the Big South.
 
Wayland, meanwhile, earned her second straight Freshman of the Week honor behind 180 shutout minutes. She helped shut down both Radford and Presbyterian, including erasing chances before they ever got to Curtis along the back line.
 
The Lancers haven't surrendered a goal in more than 280 minutes, and the team heads to Charleston Southern on Saturday for their final match of the regular season. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m.
