CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Longwood women's soccer wrapped up its non-conference schedule with a tough matchup at Charlotte on Sunday afternoon. The Lancers (2-5-2) put together a strong defensive effort, but Charlotte (4-3-3) used two second half goals to seal the deal.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Longwood faced heavy offensive pressure from Charlotte throughout the match, as the 49ers posted 19 shots with nine on target.
The Lancer back line, along with goalkeeper
Sadie Kerns, held firm for the opening 45 minutes. Kerns had five saves in the first half, and she finished with seven on the afternoon.
After halftime, Charlotte broke through on a corner kick when Kristy Campbell scored in the 64
th minute.
From that point on, Longwood had to press forward to search for the equalizer, but the Charlotte defense kept the Lancers off the board.
Meanwhile, as Longwood pushed forward, Charlotte's Tash Hudson scored with less than three minutes to play to ice the match.
WHAT THEY SAID:
"In the first half, we did a good job of sticking to our game plan," said Longwood Head Coach
Todd Dyer. "We were able to close them down and be disruptive defensively, and we got into the locker room at half 0-0. In the second half, we were just on the defensive too much, and the goal off the corner kick was the breakthrough in the game. We had to chase the game late, and that left us vulnerable in the back for the late second goal. In the end, we didn't have enough of the ball to put them on the defensive, and that caught up with us. It was a really strong test for us in spite of the result, and we now have all week to prepare for conference play."
