WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Longwood women's tennis traveled down to Wilmington North Carolina to compete against the UNC Wilmington tennis team. The women battled through some tough competition and fell 4-1 Saturday afternoon.Â

The Lancers started off strong in doubles, claiming the first doubles win at No. 3, leading to Nurgazieva and Rizvanova to clinch for the first point in a tiebreak.Â

Leading 1-0, the Lancers began a closely-contested round of singles matches, with three of the six matches leading to a third set.Â

At No. 3
Sophia Marchetta started singles off strong, winning the first set 6-4. However, Marchetta fell short in the second 6-2 and lost the third set, leading to the clinch for UNCW.Â

No. 1 and No. 2 singles kept fighting to the very end, leading to third set matches, but they both did not finish due to the clinch.
