WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Longwood women's tennis traveled down to Wilmington North Carolina to compete against the UNC Wilmington tennis team. The women battled through some tough competition and fell 4-1 Saturday afternoon. 
 
 
Singles:
No. 1: LU Emma Nurgazieva vs. UNCW Zoe Huffman 0-6, 6-4, 4-5 (DNF)
No. 2: LU Maria Saez vs. UNCW Eda Arli 4-6, 6-1, 3-5 (DNF)
No. 3: UNCW Anna Daniels vs. Sophia Marchetta 4-6, 6-2, 6-1
No. 4: UNCW Lauren Gish vs. Karina Rizvanova 6-2, 6-2
No. 5: UNCW Gabbie Glickstein vs. Wiktoria Czerny 6-4, 6-2
No. 6: UNCW Meredith Taylor vs. Nina Hederich 6-3, 6-4
 
 
Doubles: 
No. 1: LU Nurgazieva/Rizvanova vs. Arli/Gish 7-6 (4)
No. 2: UNCW Daniels/Huffman vs. Saez/Hederich 6-1
No. 3: LU Czerny/Marchetta vs. Glickstein/Taylor 6-2
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
The Lancers started off strong in doubles, claiming the first doubles win at No. 3, leading to Nurgazieva and Rizvanova to clinch for the first point in a tiebreak. 
 
Leading 1-0, the Lancers began a closely-contested round of singles matches, with three of the six matches leading to a third set. 
 
At No. 3 Sophia Marchetta started singles off strong, winning the first set 6-4. However, Marchetta fell short in the second 6-2 and lost the third set, leading to the clinch for UNCW. 
 
No. 1 and No. 2 singles kept fighting to the very end, leading to third set matches, but they both did not finish due to the clinch.
 
 
UP NEXT:
 
The Lancers will have a quick turnaround, as they face Coastal Carolina University tomorrow. The first match is set to begin at 11 a.m. in Conway, S.C.
