HOW IT HAPPENED:
Longwood came into the day tied for fourth, but the Lancers were on the wrong end of a tiebreaker for the final playoff spot in the league. Longwood needed to have a better result than either High Point or Charleston Southern, but both teams won their regular season finales.
The Lancers controlled possession throughout the course of the match, but Presbyterian (3-10-3, 2-4-2 Big South) was the side that struck first. The Blue Hose played a ball through, and Lina Marie Müller played it home in the 16
th minute.
Longwood then owned the rest of the match and repeatedly knocked on the door for the final 74 minutes.

Finally, the Lancers broke through in the 76
th minute.
Kiersten Yuhas crossed a ball into the six-yard box, and
Peyton Curney's initial header was saved. But Fitzpatrick pounced on the rebound on the back post and rocketed it home to even the match at one. It was the sophomore's third goal of the season.
Longwood then had a trio of shots in the final 14 minutes, but the Blue Hose back line kept the score line even.
WHAT THEY SAID:
"As has been the case all season, this group fought until the very end," said Longwood Head Coach
Todd Dyer. "This may be the most selfless group I've ever coached, and that's why it hurts us all so much to see it end. Our seniors this year carried the torch with class, and they are the reason this program is headed in the right direction."
"We will all grow from this and continue to do great things moving forward," Dyer added. "Lastly, and on behalf of all our players and staff, thank you to all of our fans, friends and family of the Longwood women's soccer program for all of the love and support. We couldn't do it without you. Go Lancers!"
UP NEXT:
The result means that the season is complete for the Lancers. The team closed the fall playing some of its best soccer, with a 3-1-3 record over their final seven matches.
