HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Lancers started strong and fired off six shots in the first 10 minutes. They forced a pair of saves from USC Upstate's Cooper Jennings in that stretch, but a goal evaded the Lancers.
Longwood continued to apply pressure and outshot USC Upstate 18-17 in the match, including putting nine shots on target. Over their past two matches, Longwood has piled up 40 shots.
However, it was USC Upstate that struck first. In the 41

Early in the second half, the Lancers again were knocking on the door. Longwood had five shots, including three on target, in the first 10 minutes, but the equalizer was not to be.
Upstate pushed the lead to two goals with 23 minutes to play on a penalty kick. The Lancers kept applying pressure, but USC Upstate managed to hold off Longwood.
WHAT THEY SAID:
"When you control the game for large parts and create the chances we did, it's hard to see the game slip away like it did," said Longwood Head Coach Jon Atkinosn. "However, the game doesn't reward nearly moments. Quite simply, goals define games, and we haven't capitalized on ours."
UP NEXT:
Longwood stays on the road with a trip to George Washington on Wednesday, October 18. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m., and the match is scheduled to air on ESPN+.
