FARMVILLE, Va. – A tight match came right down to the wire between Longwood women's soccer and Western Carolina on Thursday night. The two defenses proved unbreakable in a 0-0 draw.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Early in the match, Western Carolina (1-1-4) controlled the run of play, and Isabella DeMarco fired off three shots, but Longwood senior goalkeeper
Mary Kate Levush was equal to the task each time. WCU controlled the latter stages of the half and created a pair of solid chances on corners and crosses, but the Longwood back line turned each attempt aside.
The Lancers (3-3-1) had three shots of their own in the first half but were unable to break through.
After halftime, the two teams traded body blows in the run of play, although nothing materialized early. In the 74
th minute, WCU's Katelyn Galbraith put a rocket on target from the left side, but Levush batted it aside with a masterful diving save to preserve the shutout.
Levush finished with five saves.
WHAT THEY SAID:
"On the plus side, we earned a shutout on senior night," said Longwood head coach
Todd Dyer. "On the other hand, it was a rough performance, and I thought we had to hang on and fight through some tough stretches in the game. Maybe it was the emotions of the night, but we just didn't look like ourselves mentally and physically tonight.
"That being said, we still didn't concede any goals, and that is something to build on as we get closer to conference play."
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
The two sides have now gone scoreless for 200 minutes after playing to a scoreless draw one season ago.
Western Carolina had 14 shots, though only five were on target. Longwood put two of its four shots on frame.
