FARMVILLE, Va. – UNC Wilmington narrowly defeated the Longwood women's tennis team with a close 4-3 victory on Friday.
Doubles
The Seahawks (11-4) swept doubles with junior Lauren Robbins and sophomore Anna Parker Shumate defeating Lancers (7-12) sophomore
Zoe Barton and freshman
Wiktoria Czerny 6-4 in No.3 doubles, then graduates Sasha Belaya and Lauren Gish edging out senior
Emma Nurgazieva and freshman freshman
Karina Rizvanova 7-5 in No.1 doubles. Junior Zoe Huffman and graduate Maddy Muller-Hughes took a close No.2 doubles 7-6 against junior
Maria Saez and sophomore
Nina Hederich.
Singles
The close matches continued into singles with Nurgazieva defeating junior Brinley Bell 6-1, 6-7, 10-4 in No.1 singles and Czerny taking down junior Anna Daniels 1-6, 6-2, 7-5 in No.4 singles. Gish won no.2 singles in straight sets against Rizvanova and graduate Rachel Marthinsen also claimed a straight set victory over Hederich in no.5 singles. Robbins took home a 6-2, 7-5 No.6 singles win against Barton to clinch the match. Saez defeated freshman Stela Joksimovic 7-5, 6-4 in no.3 singles.
