Longwood University Athletics

Williamsburg, Va. – After a long battle with the elements over three rounds of play, Longwood men's golf managed to clench 6^th place in the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate.

Scott Jordan found himself tied for eighth place after shooting one over in the second round of play. His impressive second round performance was followed by shooting three over in the final round to score 77-72--74---223 (+10) in the tournament. Fellow Lancer Nick Rakes tied for 11^th place in the tournament. He had a masterful performance in the first round, shooting even-par and sinking six birdies. He followed that with scoring five over and six over in the second and third round to score 71-76--77--224 (+11).

Christian Michael tied for 39^th place in the tournament and scored 72-79--82---233 (+20). Brendan Dunphy scored 87-78--71---236 (+23) in three rounds to tie for 47^th place in the contest. Ryan Hammer placed 75^th and scored 79-89--81---249 (+36).

"Well, we survived," said head coach Kevin Fillman following the teams sixth place finish. "Sadly, most of the tournament rounds we've played this spring have been more survival tests than tests of golf.  Much like yesterday, we did some really good things today.  Obviously, minus one hole, Brendan was very solid.  We played more than enough good holes over the three rounds to be in contention.  Our bad holes were killers though.  That's been an issue that we've talked about constantly since late last fall.  It needs to be fixed immediately.  We're getting down to the time of year when we need to play our best golf.  As always, we'll just keep working on it."
