WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Longwood women's tennis team swept Coppin State University 7-0 to claim their first victory on the season.
Doubles
No.1 Longwood(1-5) duo of senior
Emma Nurgazieva and freshman
Karina Rizvanova shut out Lucia Placidi and Mackenzie Jones 6-0. No.2 doubles saw
Maria Saez and
Wiktoria Czerny claim victory over Iva Jankovic and Megan Jones, clinching the doubles point for the Lancers.
Zoe Barton and
Nina Hederich won their match on a default due to Coppin State not being able to field another doubles team.
Singles
In singles, every Lancer won in straight sets. In the No.1 match Nurgazieva defeated Placidi 6-2, 6-0, followed by Saez winning 6-3, 6-2 over Jankovic in the No.2 singles match. Czerny won 6-0, 6-0 in her No.3 spot over Turner, and the No. 4 singles match was 6-0, 6-0 in favor of Hederich over Etienne. Hincu won the No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-0 and Barton was given a win by default.
"Both teams came out ready to play today," said director of tennis
Adam Jackson, "we hope to carry some of this momentum into Friday's matches."
