Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Â
Campbell (11-3-3, 7-0-2 Big South) got going in the second minute as Amber Liston knocked home a rebound off a good save by
Sadie Kerns, and the Camels never relented.
Â
The win clinched the Big South regular season title for the Camels.
Â
Longwood (5-9-4, 2-5-2 Big South) battled, but the firepower of Campbell's potent offense ultimately was too much for the youthful Lancers.
Â
WHAT THEY SAID:
"That was the perfect storm in the worst way for us," said Longwood Head Coach
Todd Dyer. "The timing and frequency of goals that we conceded is hard to get our head around. I won't say we quit, but we completely fell apart defensively. All we can do is own this moment as a program and do whatever is necessary to make sure it never happens again. I'm humbled by this moment and will be the first to take responsibility and figure out how to get it turned around. It's all part of this year's journey, which has been a challenge to say the least."
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Â
Sadie Kerns, a sophomore, made four saves for the Lancers in the first half in her second career start.
Â
Victoria Drake and
Savannah Noll, both freshman, had two of Longwood's three shots.
Â
UP NEXT:
Â
The Lancers have finished their season and will head into the offseason.
