ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Making his season debut at the Sea Palms Invite, Christian Michael wasted no time showcasing his talent.
 
Michael fired a 71-72-72—215 (+2) to end his final round in a tie for third at the Sea Palms Invitational. The top-five finish is the first for the sophomore, who made just his third career appearance over the weekend, and marks the first top-three finish for Longwood since Teagan Stephenson finished third in the Northern Kentucky Classic on Sept. 24, 2019.
 
The Crimora, Va. native's performance lifted Longwood to a 10^th place finish, ending with a team score of 286-308-303—897 (+45), as three Lancers joined Michael in the top-40. Freshman Nick Rakes, making his second-consecutive appearance in the Longwood lineup, carded 72-76-74—222 (+9) to finish T-26, while graduate senior Brandon Weaver fired a 69-79-77—225 (+12) to finish T-37.
 
The young-duo of Rakes and Michael were lethal on par-five holes, ranking first and second with average scores of 4.42 and 4.50 throughout the tournament, playing them a combined -13 under par. Each picked up an eagle, with Michael being one of just two players to record two eagles including an opening-round ace on Thursday.
 
In total, Michael racked up 14 birdies across three rounds, tied for the most in the field with Chattanooga's A.J. Lintunen, who won the individual crown at 70-69-72—211 (-2). He finished with four birdies in his final round, lifting nine spots from 12^th place to third on his final 18 holes. 
 
Now finished their first two tournaments of the spring, the Lancers will have a quick turnaround to their next action when they head to Pinehurst, N.C. for the Pinehurst Intercollegiate from March 12-14. Spanning three rounds over three days, they will play course no. 8, with all stats recorded live at golfstat.com.
