ELON, N.C. - The Elon women's tennis team kept rolling on Sunday, improving to 11-3 with a 6-1 win over Longwood women's tennis on Tuesday afternoon. 

With the win, the Phoenix have won eight of their last nine matches, including three in a row. 

The Lancers (3-7) got out to a strong start, as Longwood pair Emma Nurgazieva and Zoe Barton won their doubles match 6-1. However, the Phoenix rallied to win the next two doubles contests and take a 1-0 lead into singles play. 

Maria Saez improved to 2-2 in the first position for Longwood, defeating Sibel Tanik at the top of the Elon lineup 6-4, 6-4 to capture a point for the Lancers. The win improved Saez's record to 4-5, tying her for the most singles wins on the team.

The Phoenix, who returned seven players from a 2020 squad that went 13-4 and ended the season with nine consecutive wins, displayed their depth in the remaining single matches, improving their record at home to 7-1. Leading the Elon dominance has been the dynamic pair of Victoia Saldh and Lizette Reding, who each hold team-best singles records of 11-2 in 2021. 

Up next for the Lancers is a home dual against Bluefield College on Sunday, March 28 at the New Lancer Courts starting at 2 p.m.
