Christian Michael Named Big South Golfer of the Week

Men's Golf /
FARMVILLE, Va. – After making his season debut in the Sea Palms Invitational with a third-place finish, Longwood men's golfer Christian Michael was named Big South Golfer of the Week, the conference announced Thursday afternoon.

The honor is the first in Michael's career, and the first for Longwood in 2021 after four Lancers earned Big South weekly honors in 2019-20.

A Crimora, Va. native, Michael fired 14 birdies across three rounds at the Sea Palms Resort in St. Simons Island, Ga., tied for the most in the 88 player field. The sophomore also tied for the tournament lead with two eagles, including a hole-in-one in the opening round, the lone ace in the tournament.

In total, Michael ended with a card of 71-72-72—215 (+2) in his third career start for Longwood, setting a career-mark with his opening-round 71. The top-three finish is the first for the sophomore, and marks the first top-three finish for Longwood since Teagan Stephenson finished third in the Northern Kentucky Classic on Sept. 24, 2019.

Michael ranked in the top-15 in both par-four scoring (4.11, +3) and par-five scoring (4.50, -6), trailing just teammate Nick Rakes for the tournament lead in the latter. His performance lifted Longwood to a tenth place finish, as the Lancers posted a team score of 286-308-303—897 (+45).

Longwood continues their spring slate from March 12-14, when they head to Pinehurst, N.C. for the Pinehurst Intercollegiate.
