Consistent Lancers Tied for Seventh at Edisto Island Invitational

Women's Golf /
Edisto Beach, S.C. – Playing in only the team's second tournament this fall, the Longwood women's golf team pieced together a solid, consistent round on the first day of the Edisto Island Invitational at the Par 71, 5,980 yard The Plantation Course at Edisto on Sunday afternoon.

The Lancers' opening salvo, a 302 (+18) that left the team tied for seventh with Oakland at the end of the day in the 11-team field, served as the team's lowest opening round since shooting a 300 to open the William & Mary Invitational in September of 2019. All five scoring players finished in the top half of the 68-player cohort, with the team's 302 serving as the lowest opening round since shooting an even 300 on September 9, 2019 to open the William & Mary Invitational.

Emma Landis led the charge behind a solid, consistent round. The Virginia Beach native tied for a team-best 13 pars and a birdie to card a 74 (+3) that left her tied for 26th in the field.

Diana Domenech, Bobbi Uhl, Ester Choi, Peyton Schaffer and Grace Huffman all tallied matching 76's (+5), turning into the clubhouse in a tie for 32nd, although each player worked to the score in different ways.

Domenech keyed in on Par 3's, shooting two birdies on the day while also serving as one of only 13 golfers who averaged below par on Par 3's in the opening 18 holes. Uhl matched Domenech with two birdies while also posting 11 pars.

Choi birdied back-to-back holes on 10 and 11 and finished with 10 pars as well, and Schaffer matched Landis with a team-high 13 pars on the day. Huffman, playing as an independent, led the team with three birdies.

Annabelle Jennings, playing as an independent, finished in a tie for 49th after posting a 78 (+7), and Erica Feuerhelm carded an 80 (+9) while playing as an independent.

The Lancers have two more rounds to play over the next two days in the 54-hole invitational, and the pace will pick up as the team will play in three more multi-day invitational events in the next month.
