Jamie Breunig Named to Big South All-Academic Team

Women's Tennis /
FARMVILLE, Va. - After notching five singles wins and three doubles wins in the Lancers abbreviated spring season, senior Jamie Breunig was named to the Big South Women's Tennis All-Academic Team, the conference announced Wednesday afternoon.

The Big South Women's Tennis All-Academic Team is compiled of one student-athlete from each of the 10 Big South women's tennis programs that maintains at least a cumulative 3.0 grade-point average and is of sophomore standing (academically and athletically).  The team and Scholar-Athlete of the Year award are selected by the Big South Conference Sports Information Directors, and this year's team combined for 3.87 GPA.

Named a co-captain her sophomore season, Breunig has been in the forefront of the Lancer lineup all four years as a Lancer. The senior was 5-3 in singles play in 2020, as her team was a dominant 34-20 in singles competition across 10 duals where they compiled a 7-3 overall record. Breunig's wins included two matches where she did not drop a single game across two sets, notching 6-0, 6-0 victories at N.C. Central and at home against Mount Saint Mary's. The Tom's River, N.J. native also went 3-0 in singles play in the UMW Classic, taking on members of George Mason and Mary Washington in a round-robin style tournament.

A chemistry major, Breunig was as good in the classroom as she was on the court, accumulating a 3.760 cumulative GPA while competing in both semesters throughout her time at Longwood. The latest academic-accolade comes after being named to the 2018 ITA All-Academic Team, as well as being named a Longwood Scholar Athlete.
