Longwood men's tennis gave the regining Colonial Athletic Association conference champion Elon everything that they could handle, but the Phoenix managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over the Lancers on Saturday afternoon.
In a match that saw singles victories split 3-3, the doubles point ended up being the difference for Elon in their second win of the young season. Longwood drops to 3-3, with five of their first six duals coming on the road.

Singles play began with a pair of victories by Longwood's
Ignacio Sandoval at No. 5 and
Guilherme Sergio at No. 2 as the Lancers rallied to a 2-1 advantage. However, Elon responded with wins from Camilo Ponce at No. 4 and Dino Bonetta at No. 6 to retake the lead, 3-2.
Leading 3-2, All-CAA member and the 2019 CAA Championships most outstanding performer Kyle Frankel was able to avenge his doubles defeat at the hands of Blasco with a three-set victory in the first position to secure the win. Frankel dropped the first set 5-7, but responded to win the match 6-2, 6-2.
Guillermo Cagigas collected Longwood's final point in a three-set battle over Chung-Han Tsai, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2.
Up next for the Lancers is a trip to Durham, N.C. to square off against N.C. Central. Play is set to begin at 2 p.m.
