Stephenson's Performance Earns Longwood Sixth Place at NKU

Men's Golf /
UNION, Ky. – Teagan Stephenson was awarded all-tournament team as he finished tied for third overall for the Longwood men's golf team that placed sixth as a team in the Northern Kentucky Classic on Tuesday afternoon. Freshman Miles Parroco finished tied for fifth competing as an individual.

"We deserved another middle-of-the-field finish, and that's exactly what we got," said head coach Kevin Fillman. "The best thing that came from this week is experience for our younger guys.  There's a lot that goes into being successful in college golf, and it's not all about playing good golf shots.  We're going to learn from the past couple days and be better because of it."

Stephenson fired a 71 in his final round to close with a card of 71-70-71—212 to lead the way for the Lancers. Fellow senior Brandon Weaver finished 16th after closing the tournament with a 72-73-74—219 which ranked him second among Longwood team golfers.

"Teagan was very solid again," said head coach Fillman. "He may not have played particularly well, but he knows how to get around and post scores we can use.  The experience that he and Brandon have allows them both to find ways to contribute when things aren't necessarily going the way they want them to go."
Freshman Miles Parroco walked away with a fifth-place finish after a 68-68-77—213 end to his tournament. The Kentucky native had entered the day second on the leaderboard.

"Miles was on a tough spot today," said Fillman. "I'm sure it's difficult for him to realize right now, but we'll be able to reflect on his round in the coming days and he'll be much more ready the next time he's that position."

Sophomore Ryan Hammer finished third for the Lancers after shooting a 73-78-75—226, good for 36th overall. Two freshmen made their debuts for Longwood at the event—Brendan Murphy totaled a score of 73-76-79—228 in a 46th place finish, and Christian Michael scored 79-81-73—233 to place 57th in the tournament.

Next up for the Lancers is the Presbyterian/Mosgrove intercollegiate tournament in Clinton, S.C. Play will start on Monday, Oct. 7.
