Almiron, Nurgazieva Compete at ITA Regionals

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Two of Longwood's best had the opportunity to compete against the best college tennis players in the area over the weekend. 

Emma Nurgazieva and Yulia Almiron competed in doubles and Almiron competed in singles at the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships over the weekend. The pair competed in the doubles bracket compiled of the best players from the top schools in the region, and Almiron competed in the singles championship. 

The pair of Nurgazieva and Almiron fell in their opening match to Eloise Saraty and Kalani Soli of a Liberty. The Flames women's tennis team finished last season with an impressive 15-7 record, as their duo won 8-3.

In the singles bracket, Almiron had to face No. 2 seed Natasha Subhash of Virginia. The No. 5 recruit in the country by TennisRecruiting.net, Subhash compiled a 26-8 record in ITF World Tennis Tour single matches in 2019 and has since advanced to the quarterfinals while dropping just two total games. 

This wraps up a fall season that saw several strong performances, highlighted by two single flight titles, two doubles flights titles, and a multitude of individual wins as the Lancers get ready for the spring season. 

Their next action will come in February, when they head to Fredricksburg, Va. for a clash with William & Mary on Feb. 1.
