RADFORD, Va. – Kara Wade scored twice to spearhead Radford's 5-1 win over Longwood Saturday afternoon at Cupp Stadium.
The first-place Highlanders (6-4-2, 3-0-1 Big South) scored four times in the first half, including Wade's two goals in the 19th and 39th minutes. The win extends Radford's unbeaten streak to six straight games, including four consecutive home victories, and puts Radford into a tie for first place with Liberty atop the Big South Standings.
Longwood (6-5-1, 1-2-0 Big South) held Radford without a shot for the first 15 minutes of the game, but Hannah Thomas snapped that dry spell when she headed in a corner from Jordan Lundin to the far post. Wade, who is tied for second in the league with seven goals, followed with an unassisted goal less than two minutes later to put Radford up 2-0.
"We got off to a great start the first 15 minutes of the game and created several quality scoring chances," Longwood head coach
Todd Dyer said. "Then Radford scored on their second shot and it just snowballed against us from there. We kept fighting, but not a lot of things went our way today. Radford had a lot to do with that, so I give them credit."
Longwood hammered four shots at the Radford net in the first 15 minutes of the game, but Highlanders keeper Sydney Chervenic turned away the two that were on target. Chervenic would total four saves on the afternoon en route to winning her first start of the year.

Samantha Phillips had the Lancers' lone score, finding the net with a header on a free kick in the 34th minute. The header, which came on a free kick from 30 feet out from
Alana Mackey, was Phillips' team-leading fourth goal of the season.
Next up for the Lancers is a road matchup at Big South foe High Point Wednesday. The Panthers have yet to lose on their home field this season and own a 4-3-3 overall record and a 1-1-1 mark in the league.
"It won't get any easier against High Point, so we're looking forward to a good week of practice," Dyer said
