FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University will play a 2013 Big South Conference
Men's Soccer Championship semifinal match on Friday night, November 15, against Liberty University at Bryan Park in Greensboro, North Carolina at 7 p.m. The Lancers, who have an overall record of 7-8-4, are the No. 3 seed in the tournament and advanced on PKs (4-1) following a 2-2 tie against No. 6 Campbell in a quarterfinal on Nov. 12. The Flames, who have a record of 10-8 overall, are the No. 7 seed and advanced with a 1-0 win against No. 2 High Point in a quarterfinal. Liberty defeated Longwood by a score of 2-1 in overtime during a regular season match in Lynchburg on October 29. The postseason Big South Championship event includes a ticket price of $10 daily.
Longwood is coached by 2013 Big South Coach of the Year
Jon Atkinson, who is in his ninth year and has an overall record of 58-85-29, including 40-27-15 at home. He is joined by associate head coach Eduardo de Souza, in his fifth year with the program. The youthful Lancers have 18 freshmen and sophomores among their 24-man roster, including 16 who have made starts this season.

Anthony Ugorji/Washington, D.C. leads Longwood with six goals, including a team-best four game-winning goals, and one assist for 13 points. Freshman
Ben Ferrell/Fairfax Station (three goals, two assists) and injured sophomore
Zach Crandall/Lorton (three goals, one assist) follow with eight and seven points, respectively. Sophomores
Philip van Berkom/Zetten, Netherlands and
Christian Keilty/Spotsylvania have each totaled two goals and one assist for five points, while classmate Mike Durr/Brandon, Mississippi has two goals totaling four points. Sophomores
Rhys Cairns/Washington, England (one goal, one assist) and
Lee Martin/Gambrills, Maryland (one goal, one assist), along with freshman
Vaughn Fowler/Chester (team-best three assists) each total three points. Freshman keeper
Carlos Canas/Manassas has played 1375:40 in front of the net, allowing 21 goals (1.37) with 60 saves for a .741 save percentage and two shutouts.
van Berkom was an All-Big South Second Team selection, while Cairns was tabbed an All-Conference Second Team alternate. Ugorji earned an All-Conference Honorable Mention and Canas was named to the Big South All-Freshman Team. van Berkom received Big South All-Academic accolades, as well.
The Big South Men's Soccer Championship semifinal games will air live on the Big South Network with Mark Bryant on the call. Sunday's Championship will air on ESPN3 as Matt Hogue and Evan Lepler will call the action from Greensboro. The Big South Tournament Champion receives an automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship.
No. 1 seed and nationally-ranked No. 12 Coastal Carolina (15-4) will play No. 5 seed Radford (9-6-4) in the first semifinal game on Friday at 4 p.m.
