LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Longwood University men's soccer  team dropped a 3-1 decision at Liberty University of the Big South Conference on  Tuesday evening in Lynchburg. Junior 
Devin Pierce|Virginia Beach (Ocean Lakes) scored in the 90th minute  for the Lancers (1-1) against the Flames (1-1) who scored one goal in the first  half and two goals in the second half. Longwood returns to action on Saturday,  September 3, when it hosts the University of North Florida of the Atlantic Sun  Conference at 7 p.m. at the Athletics Complex in Farmville.
Liberty took the 1-0 lead at 15:50 when Darren  Amoo scored on a header to the left corner. Longwood pushed offensively in  the first half and had a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks and 6-5 edge in shots,  but the Lancers trailed 1-0 at halftime. Amoo scored his second goal of the  match at 51:32 and Timothy Bullock added a goal at 71:39 to push the  Flames' lead to 3-0. Pierce scored for Longwood at 89:58 off a corner kick from  sophomore 
Nick Surkamp|Manassas (Osbourn  Park) to make the final 3-1.
“Today was a tale of two halves,” said head coach  
Jon Atkinson. “Longwood enjoyed the first half, but  the speed of Liberty's play was hard to hold on to. Liberty is a strong outfit  and was too much for us in the end. We had good chances and could have made it  interesting if a few of our early ones had gone in.”
Longwood had a 7-3 advantage on corner kicks while the  Flames' had an 11-10 edge in shots. Surkamp led the Lancers with three shots,  including two shots on goal, while senior 
Joel Helmick|Springfield (W.T. Woodson) made two saves while playing  the entire match in goal. Liberty was paced by Amoo with two goals on four shots  while Josh Pacella recorded four saves in 90 minutes in  goal.
