FARMVILLE, Va. – The Longwood University men's soccer team defeated Randolph College 2-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Athletics Complex in Farmville to open the 2011 campaign. The Lancers (1-0) play a pair of matches this week, traveling to Lynchburg to take on Liberty University of the Big South Conference on Tuesday, August 30, at 7 p.m., before returning home to host the University of North Florida of the Atlantic Sun Conference on Saturday, September 3, at 7 p.m. at the Athletics Complex in Farmville. Admission is free to all Longwood home fall athletics events.

The Flames return eight starters from last year's squad that went 10-7-1 and ranked 21st nationally in goals per game (1.94). Liberty is coached by 11th-year head coach Jeff Alder.

North Florida is 0-1 after falling at home to Georgia Southern 5-0. The Ospreys return leading scorer Ricky Lawrence (3g, 3a, 9p) from the 2010 squad that went 3-10, including a 1-0 victory over Longwood in Jacksonville. UNF is led by first-year head coach Derek Marinatos.

Longwood has posted a 22-16-7 record at the Athletics Complex since the facility opened for the 2006 season, including a 5-2 mark in 2009. The Lancers went 2-4-4 in home contests in 2010 and are a perfect 1-0 in 2011.
