BOX SCORE
BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Longwood University dropped a 3-0 women's soccer road decision Sunday at Long Island University of the Northeast Conference (NEC) in Brooklyn, New York. The Lancers (3-3) had their recent three-match winning streak stopped by the host Blackbirds (3-1-1). Longwood will return to action on Friday night, September 10, hosting NEC member Mount St. Mary's University at the Athletics Complex in Farmville beginning at 7 p.m.
Long Island led 1-0 at the intermission after receiving a goal in the 38th minute from Caitlin Meadows on a penalty kick at 37:06. The Blackbirds added another goal early in the second half at 49:35 when Meadows tallied her second goal with a successful shot from about 30 yards into the top left of the net. LIU finished the scoring with a third goal in the 61st minute as Jen Spicer scored on a header with an assist from Toni Smith at 60:03.
“The first half was obviously more competitive for us than the second half,” said 17th-year head coach
Todd Dyer '93. “Their movement off the ball opened us up a little bit in the second half and the early goal put us down two goals on the road to a strong LIU team. Hopefully we can get it together and perform much better against Mount St. Mary's.”
