“It was a scrappy first half and we had a hard time finding our rhythm,” said sixth-year head coach
Jon Atkinson. “We were better in the second half, we played with a better purpose. The timing of the second goal was tough. Even though we are you, we have to stop playing young. We now have to fix things before we face George Washington.”
Liberty grabbed the 1-0 lead in the 24th minute when Phillip Aseweh took a pass from Alex Verville and ripped a shot to the far post from eight yards out. The Flames' second goal came in the 67th minute after Brian Edman sent a long pass from midfield to Timothy Bullock who shook his defender and beat the goalkeeper to score the insurance goal.
One of Longwood's best scoring opportunity came in the 54th minute when senior
Harvey Headley | Coventry, England (Stoke Park) ripped a free kick from 20 yards out that was stopped by the Liberty wall. In the 66th minute, junior
Zack Mahon | San Antonio, Texas (William Howard Taft) curled a corner kick off of the outside of the near post.
Junior goalkeeper
Joel Helmick | Springfield (W.T. Woodson) had three saves while Liberty goalkeeper Paul Gilbert had one save.
