CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Longwood University men's soccer fell at the fourth-ranked University of Virginia 2-0 on Tuesday night at Klockner Stadium in Charlottesville. The Lancers (0-8-1) return to action on Saturday, October 2, when they host UNC Asheville at 5 p.m. at the Athletics Complex in Farmville. Admission is free.
“When you face the defending national champions, you expect to be patient and have to work as one,” said sixth-year head coach
Jon Atkinson. “Tonight we showed great heart and limited a good team while we sniffed at the goal. I'm very proud of our players and if they show that same discipline on Saturday, we have a chance to turn the corner.”

Ben Eanes | Troutville (Lord Botetourt) recorded five saves for the Lancers in the opening period.
The Cavaliers added a second goal in the 60th minute when Brian Span dribbled past two defenders and finished in the lower-right corner. Sophomore
Devin Pierce | Virginia Beach (Ocean Lakes) had two shots, both on goal, in the second half. Freshman
Patrick Bain | New Market (Stonewall Jackson) sent a shot high in the 83rd minute.
Eanes finished with eight saves for the Lancers. Pierce led Longwood offensively with two shots.
Diego Restrepo gathered a pair of saves in the shutout victory. Bates led Virginia offensively with a match-high nine shots while Ownby attempted four shots.
