FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University dropped a 1-0 women's soccer exhibition match decision to visiting William and Mary Saturday afternoon at the Athletics Complex in Farmville. The visiting Tribe of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) scored the lone goal of the closely-played contest on a penalty kick following a foul in the box during the opening minute of the second half. Kaitlin O'Connor was successful on the PK attempt in the 46th minute (45:46) for William and Mary during the preseason competition. Longwood will open its 2010 regular season on Friday night, August 20, on the road at VCU of the CAA in Richmond beginning at 7 p.m. The Lancers will play their first home match on Sunday, August 22, hosting the University of Richmond of the Atlantic 10 Conference at the Athletics Complex in Farmville beginning at 7 p.m. It's been designated The GAME with a picnic, a pep rally, and a march from campus to the soccer facility on Johnston Drive as the pregame festivities get started at 4 p.m. For more information, please contact Stacey Wilkerson at 395.4925 or email firstyear@longwood.edu.
