Dylan Spicker/Chesapeake (Hickory) scored what proved to be the decisive goal for the Lancers who improved to 8-5 while the Golden Eagles dropped to 3-9-2. Longwood will play again next Wednesday, October 14, remaining on the road at nationally-ranked #12 Virginia Tech of the Atlantic Coast Conference in Blacksburg beginning at 7 p.m..

“We're scoring goals again, we got a shutout, and we managed to do both on the road where it's never easy,” said veteran 16th-year head coach
Todd Dyer '93. “We can still be better with our possession but a win gives us momentum going into the Virginia Tech game next week.”
Longwood took a 15-6 advantage in shots, including 7-1 in attempts on-goal, though Tennessee Tech had a 5-4 edge on corner kicks. Redshirt-junior keeper
Marcia Biddle/Woodbridge (Gar-Field) played the entire match in front of the net for the Lancers with one save for her first shutout this season. Kaitlyn Thacker played the duration for the Golden Eagles with five saves.
It was the first-ever meeting between the two schools in women's soccer.
