LITTLESTOWN, Pa. – Longwood University fired a final-round of 288 Saturday in men’s golf for a 54-hole total of 863 (288-287-288) to finish in first-place among 18 teams at the Mount St. Mary’s Spring Invitational. The Lancers won the tournament for the second consecutive year at the 7,027-yard, par 72 Quail Valley Golf Club in Littlestown, Pennsylvania, also the team’s second tournament win this week after claiming a 36-hole event at Washington & Lee this past Monday. Longwood will play again next weekend, April 26-27, at the Cavalier Classic hosted by the University of Virginia.
Longwood was led by junior Scooter Buhrman/Fayetteville, N.C. (Jack Britt) with his career-low 67-75-70--212 to finish in second-place among the 95 collegiate golfers. Buhrman was followed by sophomore Adam Webb/Ridgeway (Magna Vista) (73-71-72--216, t-6th) and freshman Jed Rasnick/Roanoke (Lord Botetourt) (73-69-74--216, t-6th), freshman Michael Young/Oakville, Ontario (Oakville Trafalgar) (75-72-72--219, 15th), along with senior Brett Chambers/Mount Sydney (Fort Defiance) (76-76-82--234, t-56th). Webb tied his career-low for 54-holes, while Rasnick carded a career-low for 54-holes, and Young also tied his career-low for 54-holes.
Matt Krembel of Army was the medalist with his 74-66-66--206, while Longwood’s 863 was 18 shots better than the team’s winning total last year (881).
