Longwood Defeats Howard 18-4 In Final Game of The Season

Liz Sellmayer is tied with Kesley Dean for first in goals this season with 22

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Longwood University women’s lacrosse concluded its season on Thursday evening in Washington, D.C., by defeating Howard 18-4. The Lancers received hat-tricks from juniors Britt Farquharson/Mississauga, Ontario, Canada (Lorne Park Secondary) and Liz Sellmayer/Cantonville, Md. (Mount de Sales Academy) and freshman Kesley Dean/Centreville, Md. (Queen Anne’s) to help the team to a 6-10 finish on the season.

The Lancers headed into the first half ready to play, starting things off with a goal from sophomore Page Farmer/Richmond (St. Catherine’s) in the second minute of action. Farmers goal would be one of 13 that Longwood would net in the first half. Longwood would get a superb half from Dean, who netted all three of her goals before the half time whistle, scoring twice off of free position shots before scoring her final goal in the 21st minute.

Farquharson would team up with junior Shawn Darrell/Chestertown, Md. (Queen Anne’s) in the second half, with Darrell feeding Farquharson for back-to-back goals in the 32nd and 35th minutes.

Dean helped seal the game for the Lancers with two minutes remaining in the game, this time assisting Sellmayer in her third goal of the game. With 10 seconds left to play in the game freshman Duan Wright/Church Hill, Md. (Queen Anne’s) put her mark on the game, scoring her first goal of the game and second of the season. 

With their hat-tricks, Dean and Sellmayer moved into first place in goals scored this season with 22, surpassing junior Dee Warehime/Westminster, Md. (Westminster) whose season was cut short due to a knee injury.

Sophomore Eliza Coughter/Charlottesville (Charlottesville) picked up the win after playing 42 minutes in goal and recording three saves.
