FARMVILLE, Va. - Longwood University men’s tennis (8-8) defeated Georgetown 6-1 on Senior Day in Farmville, as the Lancers played their final home game of the season. Longwood was led by junior Brandon Lindsley/Woodbridge (Woodbridge) who took a singles victory from the #1 spot, defeating Jeffery Schnell in three sets (0-6, 6-4, 6-2). Longwood returns to action on Sunday, April 13 in its season finale versus George Mason in Fairfax at 1 p.m.
The Lancers also picked up singles victories from junior Carlos Garcia de Andoain/Madrid, Spain (Liceo Sorolla ‘C’) at the #2 spot (6-3, 6-3), while sophomore David Cardoso/Porto, Portugal (Externato Lumen) earned a win over Kenneth Wong at the #3 spot (6-3, 2-6, 6-1). Sophomore Billy Heird/York, Pa. (Dallastown) won at the #4 spot, knocking off Adam Gross (4-3; ret), while junior Austin Brawley/Virginia Beach (Frank W. Cox) won at the #6 spot (6-2, 6-2). Falling in singles was senior Mani Barajas-Alexander/Arlington (Bishop O’Connell) from the #5 spot (3-6, 1-6).
Longwood took the doubles point, sweeping Georgetown in all three positions. Heird/Cardoso earned the win from the #1 spot (8-3), while Garcia/Lindsley won from the #2 (8-4). At the #3 spot Mani Barajas-Alexander and sophomore Andres Lazarte/Vienna (San Miguel) earned a hard fought victory, taking down David Tillem and Tim Walsh 8-7 [6].
