FARMVILLE, Va. - Longwood University men’s tennis defeated George Mason 6-1 in its season finale on Sunday afternoon in Washington, D.C. The Lancers end their season with a 9-8 record led by senior Mani Barajas-Alexander/Arlington (Bishop O’Connell). Against George Mason the Lancers were led by sophomore David Cardoso/Porto, Portugal (Externato Lumen) who defeated Anastas Budagov at the #2 singles spot (6-1, 6-1).
Also earning singles victories were sophomore Billy Heird/York, Pa. (Dallastown) from the #3 spot (6-3, 6-2), while Mani Barajas-Alexander defeated Harwood Hoskins at the #4 spot (6-0, 6-2). Junior Austin Brawley/Virginia Beach (Frank W. Cox) won at the #5 singles spot (6-1, 6-0), while sophomore Andres Lazarte/Vienna (San Miguel) defeated Martin Brown at the #6 spot (6-1, 6-0). Falling in singles was junior Carlos Garcia de Andoain/Madrid, Spain (Liceo Sorolla ‘C’) who was forced to retire from the #1 spot after suffering an injury.
The Lancers picked up the doubles point after taking all three sets courtesy of victories from Heird/Cardoso at the #1 spot (8-4), Mani Barajas-Alexander and Brandon Lindsley/Woodbridge (Woodbridge) at the #2 spot (8-2), while Lazarte/Brawley won at the #3 spot (8-4).
