GRASONVILLE, Md. – Longwood University posted a final-round of 298 Sunday in men’s golf for a 36-hole total of 598 (300-298) to finish in first-place among 20 teams at the Lacrosse Homes Collegiate Invitational hosted by Towson University in Maryland. The Lancers narrowly edged runners-up Liberty University (600) by two strokes at the 6,761-yard, par 72 Prospect Bay Country Club. Longwood will compete again this next weekend, April 4-6, at the East Carolina/Pirate Intercollegiate in Greenville, North Carolina.
Longwood won its first tournament of the year while led by senior Brett Chambers/Mount Sydney (Fort Defiance) with his 75-71--146 to tie for second-place among the field of 99. Chambers was followed by freshman Michael Young/Oakville, Ontario (Oakville Trafalgar) (76-71--147, t-4th), sophomore Adam Webb/Ridgeway (Magna Vista) (73-77--150, t-8th), junior Scooter Buhrman/Fayetteville, N.C. (Jack Britt) (78-79--157, t-43rd), along with Jed Rasnick/Roanoke (Lord Botetourt) (76-84--160, t-59th).
Chambers tied for second in par 5 scoring (4.63, -3), tied for fourth in birdies (6), and tied for seventh in par 4 scoring (4.20, +4). Young led the field in both par 4 scoring (4.00, E) and birdies (2), and tied for sixth in par 5 scoring (4.75, -2). As a team, the Lancers led the field in both par 4 scoring (4.23, +23) and birdies (2), was second in par 5 scoring (5.05, +2), tied for fourth in both pars (106) and birdies (18), and tied for sixth in par 3 scoring (3.38, +15).
