Game One
Game Two
FARMVILLE, Va. - Longwood University softball took two from Presbyterian College on Saturday night, defeating the Blue Hose 7-0 in game one and 3-2 in game two. Senior Caitlin Hooe/Richmond (Douglas Freeman) had a career nigh for the Lancers, hitting 2-5 combined with a triple to center field in game one. Longwood returns to action Sunday afternoon as they take on Presbyterian for the final game of the three game series at 12:30 p.m. at Lancer Field.
Hooe got the offense going for the Lancers in the first inning, leading off the game with a double down the left field line. Longwood would take a 1-0 lead moments later, when freshman Kami Nuckols/Glen Allen (Patrick Henry) stole second base, opening an opportunity for Hooe to sneak home.
Longwood would get on the board again in the third inning, with Hooe once again leading things off. The 5-7 senior started the inning with a triple hit to dead center. Nuckols would pick up the RBI, knocking Hooe in after singling down the left field line. Senior Ryan Washington/Bealeton (Liberty) would join Nuckols on base, hitting a double to left field, putting both runners in scoring position. Sophomore Cami Ketsdever/Irvine (Irvine) would earn an RBI after grounding out the short stop, bringing Nuckols home. Washington would come home with the next batter, freshman Tricia Nelson/Plainfield, Ill. (Plainfield Central) who doubled to left center.
The Lancers would end the scoring in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring three more runs to take a 7-0 lead. Ketsdever would knock in all of the Lancers runs, after hitting her first home run of the season over the wall in center field, bringing home Washington and Nuckols.
Freshman Briana Wells/Romoland, Calif. (Paloma Valley) pitched the complete game striking out nine batters to improve to 8-5 on the season.
Game two of the doubleheader proved to be a tighter game, as the Lancers only managed a one point victory. Freshman Michelle Phillips/Powhatan (Powhatan) scored the first run of the game for either side in the bottom of the second inning, after being walked in.
Presbyterian jumped on the board in the top of the fourth inning, courtesy of a solo home run by senior Jenny Box. Morgan White would give the Blue Hose a 2-1 lead in the top of the next inning, scoring on a wild pitch. The Lancers would answer back in the bottom of the fifth inning with aggressive base running that would put both Hooe and Washington in scoring position. Hooe would come around to score after a wild pitch, while Washington was brought home by a Ketsdever single.
Senior Rachel Mills/Quinton (New Kent County) improved to 9-6 on the season, pitching seven innings and striking out five.
