HARRISONBURG, Va. - Longwood University men’s tennis defeated James Madison 4-3 on Saturday afternoon to improve to 7-7 (.500) on the season. The Lancers were led by junior Carlos Garcia de Andoain/Madrid, Spain (Liceo Sorolla ‘C’), who defeated Jesse Tarr at the #2 singles spot (6-3, 7-6 [6]). Longwood returns home on March 30 to take on Howard at 1 p.m. at the Lancer Courts.

Also winning in singles was sophomore David Cardoso/Porto, Portugal (Externato Lumen) at the #3 spot, defeating Mike Smith 6-3, 7-5. Sophomore Billy Heird/York, Pa. (Dallastown) picked up a victory from the #4 spot, winning 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. Senior Mani Barajas-Alexander/Arlington (Bishop O’Connell) won at the #6 singles spot after knocking off Yaroslav Voznenko 6-4, 7-6 {5}.

Falling in singles was junior Brandon Lindsley/Woodbridge (Woodbridge) from the #1 spot (3-6, 7-6 [6], (8-10)), while junior Austin Brawley/Richmond (Frank W. Cox) fell at the #5 spot (6-7 [4], 6-1, 3-6).

James Madison had took the advantage of the Lancers in the doubles match-ups, taking all three games. Heird/Cardoso fell from the #1 doubles spot (4-8), while sophomore Andres Lazarte/Vienna (San Miguel) and Lindsley fell at the #2 spot (2-8). Mani Barajas-Alexander/Garcia de Andoian made things more interesting in the #3 doubles spot, nearly pulling out a victory as they fell 8-9 [5].
