Longwood Falls At Davidson 15-11

Dean recorded one goal and an assist in Longwood's 15-11 loss

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Longwood University women’s lacrosse fell 15-11 at Davidson College on Thursday evening in Davidson, N.C. The Lancers ended the game with three players scoring two goals each. Longwood returns to action on March 28 as it travels to New Rochelle, N.Y. to take on Iona at 3 p.m.

Longwood started the game slow, trailing Davidson 10-2 at halftime. Freshman Cara O’Brien/Arlington (Bishop O’Connell) scored the Lancers first goal of the half at the 14:32 mark, cutting Davidson’s lead to 5-1. Longwood’s second goal of the half came four minutes later when junior Lauren Barnaba/Bel Air, Md. (John Carroll) collected a pass from freshman Kesley Dean/Centreville, Md. (Queen Anne’s) and slotted it past the Davidson keeper.

The Lancers came out in the second half with a renewed spirit, outscoring Davidson 9-5. Dean began the scoring for the Lancers, scoring in the 39th minute, after earning a free position shot. Freshman Morgan Illian/Salisbury, Md. (Parkside) followed suit, scoring in the 42nd minute, making the score 12-4.

The next Lancer goal came from freshman Karli Brentlinger/Gambrills, Md. (South River) in the 15:54 mark, after taking on the Davidson defense. Longwood would make a charge for the lead in the final six minutes of action, scoring six unanswered goals.

Brentlinger would go on to score her second goal of the game, while sophomore Britt Farquharson/Mississauga, Ontario, Canada (Lorne Park Secondary) and junior Joyce Haines/Prince Frederick, Md. (Calvert) would both pick up two goals. Sophomore Page Farmer/Richmond (St. Catherine's) would also add a goal in the Lancers rally.

Sophomore Eliza Coughter/Charlottesville (Charlottesville) would start in goal for the Lancers, recording 11 saves.
