Longwood Falls To Gardner-Webb 3-4

The Lancers fall to 4-6 on the season despite nearly edging out Gardner-Webb

FARMVILLE, Va. - Longwood University men’s tennis (4-6) dropped a nail bitter to Gardner-Webb on Friday afternoon, falling 3-4 at the Lancer Courts. The Lancers were on pace to tie the game 4-4 in the last singles event, as Mani/Barajas-Alexander/Arlington (Bishop O’Connell) and Taylor Ferrier of Gardner-Webb took their match-up into three sets with Ferrier coming out on top (6-4, 1-6, 6-7[6]). Longwood returns to the courts on March 24 at 1:30 p.m. as they take on East Carolina at the Lancer Courts.

Longwood earned a point from doubles, taking all three matches. At the #1 doubles spot was David Cardoso/Porto, Portugal (Externato Lumen) and Billy Heird/York, Pa. (Dallastown), who won 8-6. Brandon Lindsley/Woodbridge (Woodbridge) and Milo Barajas-Alexander/Arlington (Bishop O’Connell) won at the #2 spot (8-6), while Mani Barajas-Alexander and Carlos Garcia de Andoain/Madrid, Spain (Liceo Sorolla ‘C’) won at the #3 spot (8+6).

Lindsley and Cardoso also picked up victories in singles for the Lancers. Lindsley defeated Andrew Veeder from the #2 spot after going to three sets (6-0, 4-6, 6-2). Cardoso picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win from the #3 spot, knocking off Rafael Altmeyer.

Falling in singles was Garcia de Andoain from the #1 spot (3-6, 1-6), Heird from the #4 (3-6, 4-6) and Milo Barajas-Alexander from the #5 spot (3-6, 3-6).
