BOX SCORE

FARMVILLE, Va. - Longwood University snapped its three game losing streak on Wednesday night, as they hosted High Point in women's basketball action at Willett Hall. The Lancers improve to 12-13 on the season, while High Point falls to 10-11. Longwood returns to the road on February 13, when they face Winston-Salem State at 7 p.m. in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Longwood jumped out of the gate strong, accumulating a 7-0 lead at the 17:00 minute mark. High Point would eventually fight its way back into the game, taking a one point lead in the 11:55 mark. However, the lead would be short lived. Just seconds later junior Amber Sims/Lawrenceville (Brunswick Senior) stole the ball from Jurica Hargraves, before being fouled on her way to the basket. Sims would shot and make two free-throws to give Longwood the lead. The Lancers would never look back in the first half, controlling the scoreboard for the remainder of the period. Longwood headed into the locker room with a 31-29 advantage.

High Point refused to go down without a fight, making things interesting in the second half of action. The two teams would swap possession of the lead several times. The Panthers grabbed their largest lead of the game with 9:12 remaining in the game, jumping out to a 49-47 lead. Despite the back and forth play the Lancers stayed calm.

With 6:53 left to play Longwood would once again regain control of the game, jumping out to a 53-51 lead. After that moment the Lancers would begin to pull away from the Panthers. With 1:10 remaining freshman Krystal Garrison/Fredericksburg (Courtland) stole the ball and fed Sims, to put Longwood up 65-54, the teams largest lead of the game. High Point would try to shave away the score with little success, falling 67-60.

Junior center Anna Steg/Vienna (George C. Marshall) had a career night for the Lancers, earning her third double-double of the season. Steg pulled down 11 rebounds, while putting up 12 points. Sims was the games leading scorer, posting 18 points, just three shy of her career best. The Lancers shot 42.9 percent from the field, while shooting 52 percent from the free-throw line.

Amber Manuel was the leading scorer for the Panthers, scoring 12, while grabbing eight rebounds. High Point shot 72.2 percent from the free throw line, while shooting 32.4 percent from the field.
