FARMVILLE, Va. - Longwood University dropped its season opening game in women’s lacrosse, falling 21-11 to No. 20 Richmond at First Market Stadium in Richmond on February 15. The Lancers fall to 0-1 on the season, while Richmond improves to 1-0. Longwood returns to action on Wednesday, February 20 when they play host to William & Mary at 4 p.m. at the Lancer Athletics Complex.
Dee Warhime/Westminster, Md. (Westminster) and Kelsey Dean/Centreville, Md. (Queen Anne’s) each scored three points for the Lancers. Page Farmer/Richmond (St. Catherine’s) added two points, scoring one goal and assisting on Michelle Owen’s/Finksburg, Md. (Mount de Sales Academy) goal.
The Spiders attacked ruled the field in Richmond's victory, keeping Longwood off balance throughout the match. The Lancers had seven different players contribute for goals.
There are nine newcomers in this year's Lancer roster. Farmer led the way for the freshmen, not only recording the hat trick, but also taking four shots on goal.
