Longwood Falls At Florida Atlantic 93-69

Junior Kirk Williams Totals 13 Points, 6 Rebounds Against Owls In Florida

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Longwood University trailed 55-18 at halftime en route to a 93-69 men's basketball road loss at Sun Belt Conference member Florida Atlantic University Monday night at the FAU Arena in Boca Raton, Florida.  The Lancers (6-22) were led by senior Lamar Barrett/Providence, R.I. (St. Andrews) with a game-high 16 points and six rebounds, while the Owls (12-14) won their fourth-straight game, and sixth in the last seven games; led by Jeff Parmer (6-8, 235) with 14 points and six rebounds.  Longwood will play again on Wednesday, February 13, at Atlantic Sun Conference member Campbell University in Buies Creek, North Carolina beginning at 7 p.m..

Longwood managed an early 2-2 tie at 18:50 before Florida Atlantic used a 15-3 run to take control at 17-5 with 12:23 on the first-half clock.  Parmer scored six quick points for the Owls who extended their advantage to 35-7 at 8:11 following a run of 20-4 as Parmer added five more points for the hosts.  The Lancers tried to climb back with a quick 9-2 run behind five points from Barrett to make it 37-16 at 6:33 but FAU closed the period with an 18-2 run to lead comfortably by a score of 55-18 at the intermission.

Florida Atlantic maintained its large margin over the first 10-plus minutes of the second half, leading 84-42 at 9:18 before Longwood closed the advantage down the stretch.  The Lancers outscored the Owls 27-9 over the final 9:13 to make the final score much more respectable.  LU made four three-point field goals over the final 9:13, including two from freshman Durann Neil/Pleasantville, N.J. (Leap Academy) and one each from senior Brandon Giles/Gaithersburg, Md. (Magruder) and junior Ryan Bogan/Oxford, Pa. (Harcum JC).  Bogan had 11 points in the second half, while junior Kirk Williams/White Plains, N.Y. (Woodlands) added nine second-half points as the visitors outscored FAU 51-38 during the final 20 minutes.

Barrett finished with game-highs of 16 points and six rebounds to lead Longwood.  Williams added 13 points, six rebounds, and four steals for the Lancers, while Bogan had 13 points and Neil ended with eight points.  LU shot 39% (24-62) from the field, including 38% (9-24) on three-point field goals, and 63% (12-19) at the free throw line.

Parmer finished with 14 points and six rebounds to lead Florida Atlantic who had 11 different players score points, including Sean Alarcon (13), Carlos Monroe (11), and Carderro Nwoji (10).  FAU shot 56% (30-54) from the field, including 41% (7-17) on three-pointers, and 74% (26-35) at the line.

Florida Atlantic improved to 9-2 at home this season, and the Owls now lead the all-time series between the two schools at 2-0, including last year’s 81-63 win in Virginia.
