NEWARK, N.J. -- Longwood University had to settle for a 0-0 women's soccer tie on the road at United Soccer Conference (USC) opponent NJIT Saturday in New Jersey. The Lancers are now 6-4-2 overall, 1-0-1 in the USC, while the Highlanders are now 2-12-1, 1-1-1 in the USC. Longwood will play its fourth-straight road match on Wednesday, October 15, at Virginia Tech of The ACC in Blacksburg beginning at 7 p.m..
In New Jersey, the two teams battled scoreless for 90 minutes of regulation and through two 10-minute overtime periods. Longwood finished the 110-minute match with a 22-12 advantage in shots, including 10-8 in attempts on-goal, while having a 10-7 edge in corner kicks as well. Sophomore

Marcia Biddle/Woodbridge (Gar-Field) made eight saves while playing the duration in front of the net for Longwood. It was the sixth shutout of the season for Biddle, and the team's seventh shutout in 12 contests. Sadie Mele played the entire match in goal for the Highlanders as well with 10 saves.
“It's a little disappointing but at least we got a tie out of it,” said 15th-year head coach
Todd Dyer '93. “We created a lot of good scoring chances but just couldn't finish things off. It's a tough trip, and a tough place to play.”
Longwood and NJIT have played just two times overall with the Lancers leading the series at 1-0-1.
