Men's Cross Country Finishes 9th At Colonial Inter-Regional Challenge

Junior Evan Kearney Runs 27:14 8K At Colonial Inter-Regional Challenge

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Longwood University men’s cross country finished ninth among 10 teams Saturday at the Colonial Inter-Regional Challenge hosted by the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg. Georgetown University won the event, led by Andrew Bumbalough who won the 8K race in 24:13. Longwood will compete again next Saturday, October 6, at the Hagan Stone Challenge in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Longwood was led by junior Evan Kearney/Richmond (Douglas Freeman) with his time of 27:14 to finish 80th among 125 collegiate runners. Kearney was followed by senior D.J. Palmer/Chantilly (Chantilly) (27:38, 86th), sophomore Daniel Honey/Fairfax (W.T. Woodson) (27:43, 87th), senior Mark Anderson/Chesapeake (Western Branch) (27:56, 89th), and sophomore Ross Roberts/Powhatan (Powhatan) (28:31, 93rd). Kearney, Honey, and Anderson each ran new season-best times.

Also running for the Lancers were freshmen Dave Reed/Rocky Mount (Franklin) (28:40, 94th), John Lapke/Virginia Beach (Cox) (28:43, 95th), Daniel Cummings/Hampton (Ocean Lakes) (28:51, 100th), Tyler Copley/Chesapeake (Western Branch) (29:01, 101st), along with Phil Kada/Arlington (Franklin) (29:09, 104th). Reed, Lapke, Cummings, Copley, and Kada also each ran new season-best times.
