WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Longwood University women’s cross country finished seventh among 10 teams Saturday at the Colonial Inter-Regional Challenge hosted by the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg. Virginia Tech won the event, led by Tazmin Fanning who won the 6K race in 20:21. Longwood will compete again next Saturday, October 6, at the Hagan Stone Challenge in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Longwood was led by sophomore Jacquelyne Chantry/Williamsburg (Lafayette) with her time of 23:26 to finish 38th among 131 collegiate runners. Chantry was followed by classmate Kate Knupp/Edinburg (Central) (24:35, 64th), freshman Natalie Auble/Fairfax (Fairfax) (24:47, 68th), along with sophomores Elizabeth Owens/Disputanta (Prince George) (25:02, 71st) and Laura Bland/Las Vegas, Nev. (Palo Verde) (25:24, 74th). Chantry, Auble, Owens, and Bland each ran new collegiate-bests for the unusual distance for women.
Also running for the Lancers were senior Kristin Novara/Winchester (Millbrook) (25:36, 77th), sophomore Priscilla Sherwood/Newport News (Woodside) (26:01, 81st), freshmen Lauren Kuhns/Fredericksburg (Riverbend) (26:01, 82nd) and Mandy Ford/Powhatan (Powhatan) (26:06, 84th), sophomore Melinda Lackore/Virginia Beach (First Colonial) (26:38, 87th), as well as freshmen Paula Roberson/Fairfax (Chantilly) (226:46, 89th) and Jamie Upshaw/Bowling Green (Lee-Davis) (27:27, 92nd). Sherwood, Kuhns, Ford, Lackore, Roberson, and Upshaw also each ran collegiate-bests.
